"Considering this summer was his first time to play, it’s so neat to watch him develop and grow the love for it," writes the father of the boy in green. The video shows young Jaxon alongside adult volleyball players.

teacher of the year
Oceanside Unified School District awards Teacher of the Year to two deserving teachers. One winner of the 2020-21 Teachers and Classified Employees of the Year is also our wonderful Clinician, Xye Sanders!
OCUSD reports, "Sanders believes that all students can achieve, and helps them build upon their unique learning styles. She is intentional in engaging parents and helps fellow staff meet student needs through the IEP process. She goes out of her way to lead extracurricular activities, and is an overall leader and unifier among her community. Sanders will go on as a finalist for San Diego County’s teacher of the year."
We are proud to share a court with someone so dedicated to the youth of our community. Well deserved and congratulations!
winter camps in action
USYVL is proud to announce we are able to run winter volleyball camps this year! We started our first round of winter camps on January 15, and what fun our players are having! USYVL camps focus on building off the fundamentals and basics of volleyball that players learn in our instructional leagues. They allow participants to get more practice on specific skill sets, and continue to develop their knowledge in the sport.
We look forward to continuing our winter programs, and hope your player can join one of our winter camps! Checkout what camps are available near you: www.usyvl.org
des moines wrap-up
USYVL wrapped-up a successful winter program in Des Moines, IA this January! Even in the colder months, USYVL can keep our players practicing indoors and make sure they are still able to get out on the court to continue developing their skills and enhancing their technique for the upcoming spring season. Our Des Moines players and Coach had a blast playing this season and we were excited to bring a safe and fun program to their community.

coaching corner
A great drill is the star passing drill!
Have the first player with the ball stand next to the middle of the net facing away from the net. The second player will start directly across, 3-4 feet from the middle of the end line. The drill begins by having the player with the ball toss the ball directly across to the second player. That player will pass the ball back to the middle of the court always executing correct passing form. Then the second player moves to the right corner and receives another toss and passes. Then they move to the right front corner and receive another toss and passes. They repeat by going back to the right corner and middle. Then they do the same on the left side.
With one rotation of this drill, 9 balls are passed by one player consecutively.
a reminder, spring registration is open
If you haven't already, we hope you will join us on the courts this spring.
