Wow, it's almost the end of January and soon we will be gearing up all the sites for the spring season! Balls will start bouncing, confirmation packets will start hitting doors and parent meeting and coaching clinics will start the excitement of the season.

Volunteering to coach a team is what many parent and family members do every year at USYVL. It's a tradition, part of the seasonal activities of thousands of families.

Come join the fun, volunteer to coach!  It is easy, fun and you will get so much more out of it.  Remember that the time commitment and schedule is the same as that of your child, you have the support of your volleyball instructor (Clinician) at every practice and game and you even get a cool red polo shirt and whistle!

Incorporating the toss, footwork and then contacting the ball takes a lot of skill and coordination.

USYVL players start early.  On the first day of practice they jump serve.

Once they get to the higher age division, just as this player at one of the Ventura Game Days, they have perfected the Jump Serve.

At every site, we have a Clinician (Volleyball Instructor) that guides all coaches on how to set-up the volleyball drills for their team and teach the skills correctly.  For those coaches that don't feel comfortable demonstrating the skills, this a great time to use your Clinician and show off how much he or she knows.

Before the season starts, your Clinician runs a two hour coaching clinic which covers volleyball skills, running practice and everything you will need to know for the season.

If that wasn't enough, we do provide you with a USYVL Curriculum Handbook that has a daily agenda for practices and games.  Also, we have a video on our website that goes over everything covered in the coaching clinic.

Consider being a team coach.  It's the most fun you will ever have and you get a red polo shirt and a whistle!

When you think of Laurie McCarter, you think of Moorpark USYVL and vice versa. Laurie started her extensive volunteer career with USYVL the first year Moorpark USYVL opened as a volunteer coach. From there, it’s all a whirlwind as the program has grown to a popular youth sport under her direction. We are very honored that Laurie chose USYVL to donate her time and talents and we will dearly miss her positive outlook and excitement she brought to the sport. She is like a ray of sunshine and we look forward to seeing her staying involved through the USYVL board and coaching.

We were not the only ones that noticed how special she is! The City of Moorpark honored her with a special recognition award for ten years of service to her community. Thank you Laurie and you will always be special in our hearts!

Having Fun on Final Day

It's a tradition in Newbury Park, that volleyball, especially USYVL, is the best sport in town.

The kids learn how to play, have fun and make new friends.

The last day of the season is usually one filled with "oh no, it's the last day of the season", but for these kids it's just the start of a lifelong sport!
